Asos.com – $6US shipping to Canada

Posted by mellowchick On March - 5 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

I don’t know how long this has been around but Asos now ships to North America including Canada for $6US regular, $15US flat rate shipping. Insanity! There is so much stuff on clearance right now too. Make sure you know your measurements as UK sizes are smaller. They have Bust/Waist/Hip conversions as well as US – UK size conversions. They’ve pretty much got everything, from low-end to extremely high-end (ie. Vintange Chanel purses for $3,000)

Here’s what I got:

ASOS Multiway Longline Cardigan - $29Same sweater - $30 in red

1) Multiway in Pink – $29 2) Multiway in Red – $30 3) Basic roll sleeve tea – $13

I would say well worth it. I didn’t want to buy too many items that were form fitting in case the fit is really bad. Here were a few other items I’ve been eyeing:

Note, not exactly spring like.. but I can stock up for next year? The last one probably is wearable in the spring time. I’m pretty crazy over prints right now.. ie. floral or printed.

Check out the spring line by Diane Von Furstenberg. To DIE for, SAFARI PRINTS!

1) Jamilia Dress – $385 2) Hadini Jacket – $625

New Zinio Iphone App

iphone zinio

it’s not that clear of a picture but Zinio.com finally made available for download at their app store their Zinio App!  Although I’ve been subscribing for about a year on this awesome piece of software, I found that I haven’t been really reading my subscriptions as much since sometimes I just don’t want top open my laptop. Anyways, now that’s its available at the app store I’m fully utilizing my $7-$10/year subscription to Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Elle and Nylon Magazine.

Click for video of it in action!

The only sucky part is that any of my old subscriptions have yet to be “translated”… but that’s okay. I just got my first issue of HB and Marie Claire. This should keep me pre-occupied for the next month or so.

Haute Queen of Couture

Posted by Cindy On February - 16 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

A few weeks ago, I had a conversation with a colleague who asked me “why and how on earth do designers make a living? What kind of fools buy such expensive pieces of clothe?” I made an mild effort to answer her question or lash comment towards the fashion industry. I guess for one, top designers don’t simply invent or create Haute Couture (HC) in hopes to mass produce and sell in bulk, that is the intent of large corporations that operate at your local mall. Top notch designers most often work for privately owned companies, where they are given artistic freedom to design for the sake of fashion…to practice artistry. I guess its like a portable piece of Van Gogh, only that you can wear it on your back. My point really is that we should just appreciate the gifts of creativity designers are willing to share with us, meaning just observe and enjoy the stimulation of artwork.

It has been widely known that Daphne Guinness has been the friend and muse to many prominent designers (Lagerfeld, McQueen, Ford… and on and on the list goes).  Not only being the heiress to the Guinness fortune, she has managed to prove she IS Haute Couture royalty. I can only imagine her wardrobe collection, it should be made a museum one day.

Guinness has been known to always wear her sky high heels… she has recently raised the ante to 7 inches!  I must say, she really does put the “F” in FIERCE. If you’re 5′1, you now have a shot at being a runway model! Left: Alexander McQueen Armadillo . Right: Nina Ricci Booties. Speaking of McQueen, and for those of you who take interest in data and numbers… According to Zimbio: McQueen store sales jumped 1400% in the week after his passing. My bet is on Scull Scarf sales. Although his runway wear is super expensive and not ideally affordable to many, he did hit a home run with the silk scarves! Throw on your scullies to pay tribute to the man who made you feel so suave wearing those MCQ scarves!

Gorgeous New Geox boots

It took me forever to find a pair of boots, but I finally did! Geox is doing a great sale right now, additional 25% on already reduced prices. Most boots are already 30-50% off!  These were 52% off, 30% + 25% of $325.  Depending on what your shoe size you could spend less than $200 and end up with a great pair of leather shoes. I can’t wear high-heels with no support anymore, so these are good because they have a small platform in the front and a thicker heel. Also, slight rounded pointy toe…

I’m selling a pair of old boots that I no longer want to wear, but these are in very good shape. Hardly any scuffs! Click on the picture to link directly to my auction.

Here were some of the other deals online but didn’t come in my size (I’m a 7). I was looking for boots that came up higher on my leg, without going over my knee. Good support and real leather.

Valentine’s Day Movie

Posted by mellowchick On January - 28 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Well.. because I’m a complete sucker for Romantic Comedies…. it’s the movie Valentine’s Day!

Valentinesdaymovie

it’s reminiscent of He’s Just Not That Into You (HJNTIY) and Love Actually, it’s jam packed with many celebs including Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Julia Roberts, Taylor Swift, Anne Hathway.  It’s probably going to be extra cheesy with someone getting broken up with, but another finding love in a weird place…. if you’ve watched HJNTIY then you know the plotline with jilted Jennifer Connelly by Bradley Cooper for Scarlett Johansson.

Gucci Changes the Music

So I guess the Rocker image won’t last forever and I can see that most designers are revamping this image by focusing less on chains and studs and progressing with more of a modern electric genre, Techno-Glam. More geometric art, keeping with leather for some matrix-sexy. Doesn’t this just scream trance trance baby?

Beyonce & Balmain, Inspired by the King of Pop

Posted by Cindy On January - 26 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

My first blog post, thanks to mellow chick for inviting me into your circle. Enjoy!

Beyonce performed in London last Friday, for the “Hope for Haiti Now Charity” sporting another Balmain’s black crystal embellished canvas military jacket inspired by the late King of Pop. Although this is not your typical daily jacket costing $11,000 USD, it does however make its point, over-the-top art.

Michael Jackson borrowed and wore his mother’s black sequin jacket to perform  “Billie Jean” the first time in 1983. Beyonce dazzling in all sequins, looks like she is heading to a serious rock concert.

Balmain 2010 Winter: Can you say sequins are taking over or what! See sequins can be worn with class. I think Balmain has revolutionized the way we should wear bling, no more of that Hardy and Audiger please.

Since I’m supposed to be saving money for my wedding.. what better way to curb my shopping addiction (no really I’m trying) by taking a look at what’s probably going to start hitting the stores in the next few seasons. Note that Vancouver tends to be about a year late in the trends, sad but true. Let’s take a look at what to expect!

Prints are everywhere in vibrant blue/green hues!

BCBG Max Azria; sheer dresses paired with splatered patterns

Damn this could be the movie Avatar, maybe the sequel? Alexander Mcqueen has a sick mind!

Stella Mccartney showcasing splattered patterns as well but in rich flora/fauna colors

Jason Wu; psychadelic purple hues in rich shades of lavender and silver

Doo.ri; Muted prints in different softed color shades!

And then how to take it from Runway to Real Life — post to update soon!

Gladiator pumps! Not so practical but so cute for going out!

Yargh if only I had 3g’s to spare.. sigh :(

For the Love of Etsy (.com that is)

If you’ve ever wanted anything that was original or unique.. that you could only find at those small boutiques were too darned lazy to hit the pavement and go looking. Well think no more, Try Etsy.com!!

It’s not just for clothing shopping either, I used it to try and find really neat stuff from my condo. To spruce up a dreary wall, try something like temporary wall decals with a touch of paint:

it’s also a great place to find antique furniture:

this one I found looked absoloutely awesome. so cool, now I can display all my booze for all to see!!

These toile pillows are absoloutely divine! I love Toile! I think my next post will be on this stuff : )
